Annual Convention and Auction

Each year in the early Fall, the Club holds a four-day Annual Convention. This entertaining and informative event moves around the country each year providing members an opportunity to see collections throughout the nation.

Activities

In conventions past we have seen hands-on decorating by china painters, heard presentations on the history of Pickard and other Chicago studios, learned about the life and work of artists and their descendants, and learned porcelain painting techniques, insurance and other helpful information.

Tours

Often included are chartered bus tours of the host city, visits to historic sites, and in-home exhibitions of private collections.

Auction and Sale

The Annual Banquet and Auction is always a highlight and a rare opportunity to see a wide range of china available for appreciation or purchase. Another convention event is the Sunday Sale by dealers and individuals, an opportunity to take home that treasure you have long been searching for. Most importantly, you will take home the friendships made with those who share your passion for all things Pickard. Auction is open to club members only.

2025 Annual Convention – Nashville Recap

Our 2025 Convention in Nashville was one for the books. From the moment everyone arrived, the energy was easy, warm, and genuinely fun—exactly the kind of gathering that reminds you why this community is special.  A big thank-you to our Club President, Harold Dodds, for his steady leadership and the time, care, and enthusiasm he puts into making gatherings like this such a success.

We had two great tours this year: 🍷 Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery, where we tasted some award winning wines and learned a bit of history, and 🌺 Cheekwood Estate & Gardens, which was absolutely beautiful in the autumn light. We also enjoyed a terrific lunch at Etch in downtown Nashville —good food, easy conversation, and a chance for everyone to connect.

We had a great lineup this year. Harry Poulos gave a really interesting talk on the American-made artists who decorated for Pickard. Our Stump the Chumps crew—Tim, Garret, and Harry—examined unique finds from club members and provided their valuable insights. Tom Newman brought the energy with an entertaining round of Pickard trivia, and Jan Simek wrapped things up with a fantastic Pickard slideshow that everyone enjoyed.

And of course, our silent and live auctions brought out the best kind of excitement—great finds, friendly competition, and lots of laughs, all while supporting the Club’s mission.

All in all, Nashville gave us a great setting for a weekend of learning, laughter, and catching up with friends old and new. If you didn’t make it this year, we’d love to have you join us next time. Every convention brings new experiences, new friendships, and a renewed appreciation for what brings us together: Gorgeous Handpainted China—and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
